We might have mentioned that we had some exciting news related to the LAN party that is throwing at Penguicon this year, and here it is…

MPCon LAN

MYTHLOGIC, our local source for gaming PCs and long-time supporter of southeast Michigan events, is bringing a half-dozen or so gaming rigs to the convention so that you can drop into some of the many games, contests, and tournaments that MPCon has in store for us (which, from the rumor mill, sounds like it includes competitions in games like Trackmania Nations, Starcraft 2, Minecraft, etc). Remember, though, if you want to be sure that you will have a chance to compete, bring your own systems and reserve your spot on the MPCon site.

Free Gaming Laptop

But MYTH didn’t stop there. They have built a custom version of their MYTHLOGIC Pollux system for us to give away to you! They took the already impressive 15″ system and crammed it full of upgrades, like:

  • An NVIDIA GTX 580M 2048MB Video Card
  • An Intel Core i7-2760QM 2.40GHz w/ 6MB cache
  • 16GB (4 x 4GB) of RAM
  • A blazing fast Samsung 128GB 830 Series SATA III 6Gb/s Solid State Drive
  • Integrated Bluetooth 3.0+EDR / Integrated Webcam / Integrated Fingerprint Reader

All running Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit and covered by their MYTH Lifetime assurance with Lifetime labor warranty and the Lifetime Phoenix Upgrade Plan.

Winning the Prize

If you have registered for the convention (or, I guess more accurately, if you register for the convention at any point) you are eligible to win…everyone that has a registration1 gets one entry into the drawing that will take place at closing ceremonies.

You can, however, boost your chances. Every time you participate in a qualified convention activity like the Rock Band Rock-Off, Masquerade, Drag Show, etc (qualified activities will be labeled, but feel free to ask the person running any given event if it is qualified…we will also put up a list of qualifying events at Operations), you get an additional entry. Also, many of the convention’s contests will be awarding one or more additional entries as prizes.

If you have questions, email jer@ or Tweet us! If you are running an event and want to make sure it is a qualifying event, email me at jer@!

Good luck.

1 For legal reasons (and because it’s more fair) members of the convention committee (concom) are disqualified from the drawing.

You know how they say that you should never watch sausage get made? Well, they’re probably right…but if you’re the sort that wants to see our sausage, well, here full 3 hours of our last ConCom meeting (Sunday, March 18th) as committed to video and uploaded to YouTube by Gibson Nichols!

(And in case the above doesn’t work…links)

  1. Part 1 (Featuring much cussing and obscenity)
  2. Part 2 (Featuring a dead hooker and Irish-stereotyping)
  3. Part 3 (Still more swearing, and…mostly swearing)

If you ever wondered how we did what we do…this will show you it is through much obscenity, laughing, inappropriate humor, and caffeine. Oh and hard work.

(But mostly the first four)

There are still several openings for presentations, events, and panels.  If you are hoping to present in some way, please take some time to contact us with your ideas.

Other ways to help out come in the form of donating items we need.  Different projects require different supplies, some of which are harder to come by.  Many staff members are seeking out equipment and donations right now.  If you have something you don’t need and would like to see go to good use, let us know, maybe we can use it.

On that note, we are preparing some of the Prom decorations and could use some help with that.  Continue reading »

I received an e-mail in my inbox today asking me if CFPs were still open for this year’s Penguicon, and they most certainly are! Check out the “Presenting” page for more information on how to submit a proposal.
